1.) Mental Exercise for Self-Esteem:

Alter Ego

Five-time NBA champion, Kobe Bryant, went through a difficult personal period during his career due to circumstances off the court. "I had to separate myself," Bryant explained. "So I created The Black Mamba." The Black Mamba is an alter ego he created for himself based off a venomous snake from the movie Kill Bill. Bryant explained that "Kobe" dealt with his personal challenges off the court and "The Black Mamba” handled business on the court. An alter ego will allow you to switch from the person you know yourself as, into the person you want to become.

  • Step one: Pick someone or something you want to become (you must first know all about them to create an emotional connection). Step two: Create a mental switch that turns the alter go on—for Bryant, it was every time he stepped onto the court.  

2.) Exercise for Authenticity:

Create a Trademark Style

The greats all have a trademark personality trait that they display while they perform. For Cristiano Ronaldo it's his celebration, for Neymar it's his hair, for Ronaldinho it's his constant smile. Others may not agree with it, but they’ll all agree that it’s YOU!

  • Cultivate your appearance, your actions, or simply your style to portray your personality and force yourself to be authentic.

3.) Exercise for Enjoyment:

Smile

Smiling sends neuropathic messages to your brain that basically tricks your brain into believing you are happy no matter what emotion you were previously feeling. Marathon world record holder, Eliud Kipchoge, smiles during tough parts of a race to give him a boost in energy.

  • When you’re experiencing damaging emotions, smile for thirty seconds and you will immediately feel a change in your mental state.
